I have major FOMO right now

As I write this I am experiencing FOMO.

Fear of missing out.

It’s a powerful thing.

And usually it involves bad decisions.

When I look back on decisions that I have made, the ones induced by FOMO rarely work out.

I had a few disastrous FOMO trades in the last bull market. I’m only human.

But why is FOMO so powerful?

We are social animals - we want to fit in.

It’s in our DNA.

So what is giving me such FOMO you ask: Meta’s new “Twitter killer”, Threads.

The Backstory

Elon and Twitter are getting some bad press lately.

Advertising revenue is cratering!

Users are angry!

Their leaving to other platforms!

Can Twitter survive?

All the while Mark Zuckerberg releases his Twitter clone platform early to strike when Twitter is at its weakest.

So what does this mean for Twitter?

Here’s 4 different takes:

Zuckerberg’s Jugular Strategy:

George Ten thinks it’s ultimate bullish for Twitter.

As I read this I got major FOMO but then realized I never use my tiny Instagram account.

So logically, it shouldn’t bother me.

Kieran Drew thinks its all just FOMO.

NFT GOD says it’s a “life changing opportunity” in his latest newsletter.

So should you join Threads and hop on the gravy train?

I can’t tell you what to do.

You’re an adult.

I’ll probably create a Threads account (out of FOMO). And then not do anything with it.

Why?

You can only climb one mountain at a time.

It’s why I haven’t done much with LinkedIn or Instagram or other platforms.

Most creators are overwhelmed and spread themselves too thin.

So instead of being really good at one platform, they are mediocre at seven platforms.

And the reason for that is: FOMO.

If you want to stand out online, build your skills at one thing first.

Then expand.

Keep climbing that one mountain.

You probably noticed this week’s newsletter is a day late. It’s been a crazy week and I just wasn’t able to get it out on Friday. Forgive me, my fellow legends.

But, it also lets me test a new day. What day to you prefer?
