Like an old drunk man with a pool stick
It’s 5:07 am.
I’m here at my kitchen table, surrounded by nothing but silence.
The sun has yet to rise.
There’s a big smile on my face as I type furiously.
I used to hate getting up early.
Now, I love it.
What changed?
My purpose.
I used to wake up dreading my finance job.
Now, I wake up early to write Web3 content and this newsletter!
But I’ve got to be quick, before my one year old son wakes up and starts smashing up the place, like an old drunk man with a pool stick.
So let’s get to it!
The Web3 Creator - Where to Start??
If you want to make it in Web3 you have to be able to communicate online. There is no way around it.
So what does that mean?
It means you need to learn how to write.
Even short form video starts with a script.
Writing is the key.
And it’s transferable to anything: email marketing, ghostwriting, social media, community management, business development, etc.
But there’s just one problem:
The way you learned how to write in school will get you nowhere online.
Forget everything you learned in school.
This one took me a while but I’m managed to empty my brain of the nonsense they taught me in high school writing class.

How to Write Online
I don’t want to be a copywriter.
Sounds really boring.
But I’m learning copywriting.
Why?
Because that is one of the keys to writing online!
Writing online is all about attention.
You have to grab it, before some other shitty post about meme coins steals your reader’s attention.
Think about it: you’re scrolling Twitter and you see a Tweet about a Web3 topic that you wrote.
BUT just below it is a Tweet about how the next meme coin will “100x your portfolio 🚀🚀🚀 #wagmi”
Which is going to grab your attention?
My dopamine receptors care about 100x’ing my portfolio more than learning about this other Web3 topic.
This is where copywriting comes in.
Copywriting is writing in a way that gets people to take action (usually click or buy or subscribe).
Copywriting is behavioral psychology + writing.
This is the first step to improving your writing online.
But let me set the stage for you in case you’re not sure why improving your writing online matters.
Dan Koe is a creator who writes about one person businesses online.
He started out just like me and you.
No audience and his Tweets weren’t very good.
But he utilized copywriting and consistently got better at writing.
He now has over 1M followers on Instagram, over 333K followers on Twitter and 87K followers on LinkedIn.
The dude is a legend.
And all because he started writing consistently and used copywriting as well as storytelling.
Here’s what’s possible:
My creator business revenue (rounded):
2019: $10,000
2020: $100,000
2021: $150,000
2022: $800,000
2023: $2,500,000 (projected)Please for the love of all things holy don't quit after 2 months.

How to Get There?
Ok, so you’re starting to be convinced this writing thing might be for you.
But where do you start?
First and foremost get the following book:

This book is the foundation and it’s where you should start.
It’s also entertaining to read.
But, you may read it and think: “what does mail order advertising have to do with writing on Twitter or LinkedIn?”
Twitter and Linked in are not social media - they are networking tools and markets.
While you read this book, think of every tweet you write as an advertisement.
People are scrolling their feed going through your posts. But what’s really happening is they are scrolling advertisements.
You’re tweets/posts are advertisements, and the currency to engage with your ads (content): attention
Learn the basics of copywriting and you’ll start catching people’s attention.
Additional Resources:
If you want to go deeper into copywriting I would also recommend the following books:
The Boron Letters
Cashvertising
The three books mentioned in this newsletter will get you 90% of the way there.
After that you need to put in the reps: start writing and hitting publish.
aaand like clockwork my son has awoken like a the mighty Kraken unfurling it’s tentacles from the deep blue sea 🐙 🤣
Enjoy your weekend. Reply with any questions, I love reader feedback!
